Environmental Value Stream Mapping (EVSM) analyzes your process inputs and outputs to determine locations of waste in your process and to propose solutions to eliminate or reduce the waste. Not only does this make your company greener, it also increases profits by reducing costs.
New Mexico MEP (NM MEP) requires the following records to complete an EVSM:
- A minimum of one year’s records is required — but for best results, two years of records are advisable. If business fluctuations exists, additional years may be required.
- NM MEP needs to get a good picture of what the range of impacts are on the organization. The records have to include quantities ordered, cost per unit, taxes, surcharges, etc. Actual utility bills or invoices are best. Having the supplier provide the records in electronic format is best.
If the NM MEP client does not want to or can’t get the records, he/she can write a letter to all of his/her suppliers stating that an audit is being conducted and requesting that NM MEP be given access to account information. The process of acquiring records slightly prolongs the EVSM time frame — by one day for a small company, and two days for a large company.

- Compressed Air
- Motor Quantity and Sizes (it may not be significant, but if large motors are used, we need to know in advance)
- Fans (process fans, not small fans)
- Pumps

- Natural and LP Gas
- Gasoline, Diesel, Oils
- Water
- Sewer
- Solid Waste
- Trucked Waste (liquid)
- Any hazardous waste (paint, solvents, process gases, VOC, etc.)
